China, India hold talks on border dispute

Senior Indian and Chinese officials have held high-level talks to discuss border issues over the disputed Himalayan region.

Defense and foreign affairs officials from both sides met on Tuesday in New Delhi and talked about steps to strengthen peace and tranquility along their borders.

Beijing and New Delhi have held 16 rounds of talks since 2003 to resolve their border dispute, without making much progress. The last meeting was held earlier this month in Beijing.

The recent talks come after a stand-off in May over troops movements, when India accused Chinese troops of intruding some 20 kilometers into its territories. The move triggered a 3-week standoff between Beijing and New Delhi.

The dispute was resolved after both sides agreed to pull back. The Line of Actual Control between the two countries has never been formally demarcated. The border region saw a brief Indo-Chinese war in 1962.
